Park Rapids Area School board elects 2010 officers
Sherry Safratowich will continue to be chairperson of the Park Rapids Area School Board for 2010.
Election of officers and other reorganization was part of the agenda Monday night at the school board's first meeting of the year.
Gary Gauldin will once again be vice-chairperson and Karol Savage will be treasurer again. This year, Stephanie Carlson will step up as clerk. Dennis Dodge and David Otterness are directors.
In new business, the board:
-Approved a resolution directing administration to make recommendations for reductions in programs and positions.
Superintendent Glenn Chiodo said this is a recommendation that has been approved for the last six or seven years.
"We will start the process now, after the first of the year, as we always have, take a look at the projected numbers," he said.
Administration will look at a reasonable number for reductions.
"We will have to make reductions, that's not a question," Chiodo said. "The number is the question right now."
Proposals will be presented to the board most likely in March, he said.
-Changed January's second meeting to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20 because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
-Changed February's second meeting to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17 due to President's Day.
-Set evaluations for 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8.
In other business, the board:
-Approved compensation for board members at a base salary of $2,600 annually, $25 per meeting and $50 for meetings lasting over four hours, which is the same as it has been for several years.
-Set regular board meetings for 6 p.m. the first and third Mondays of the month.
-Designated the Park Rapids Enterprise as the official newspaper.
-Designated official depositories for school district checking account, auxiliary fund, investments and the scholarship fund.
-Approved facsimile signatures on computer generated checks.
-Approved organizational memberships for the Minnesota School Boards Association, Northwest Service Cooperative, North Country Vocational Cooperative, Minnesota Rural Education Association, Hubbard County Family Collaborative.
-Approved joint powers memberships for the city and county fueling facility, city and county community center and PAWN special education cooperative.
-Set board member representation for areas as the following:
Safratowich: Special Education PAWN council and negotiations.
Gauldin: Activities including Minnesota State High School League, legislative liaison, HRDC and Progress Park Rapids.
Dodge: North Country Vocational Co-op and school forests.
Savage: Community Education council, Systems Accountability committee and negotiations.
Carlson: Scholarship committee and negotiations.
-Authorized the superintendent, business manager, accounting technician and payroll technician to make electronic fund transfers as recommended by the district's audit firm EideBailly.
-Authorized the superintendent, business manager, accounting technician and payroll technician to sign checks on the Imprest account.
-Approved hiring James Belfiori as a volunteer softball coach.
-Approved hiring Terry Burlingame as a volunteer softball coach pending a background check.
