Park Rapids area coming events for Dec. 30 through Jan. 16
Sunday, Dec. 30
Park Rapids Fun & Dance will host a dance from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30 at the Park Rapids American Legion.
The public is invited. Dance to Frankly Country. Proceeds pay for the band and rent of the facility. Contact Jan at 237-6037 for further details.
Monday, Dec. 31
The Friendly Squares will host a square dance New Year's Eve at the airport in Park Rapids.
The dance will be from 8 to 10 p.m. with a potluck supper from 10 to 11 and more dancing from 11 to midnight.
The caller will be Roger Lueth and Donna Stone will cue round dancing between tips. All square dancers are invited.
Sunday, Jan. 6
Lakes Plus will have a dance at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6 at the Odd Fellows Hall, 118 W. Holmes St., Detroit Lakes.
Roger McNeil will call the tips. A potluck finger food lunch will be available during the dance.
Visitors and spectators are welcome.
Thursday, Jan. 10
The Wadena Evangelical Church is starting a DivorceCare group, meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning, Jan. 10.
DivorceCare helps in recovery from the pain of separation and divorce and is led by people who have been through it and understand how you feel.
DivorceCare is a network of over 13,000 churches worldwide equipped to offer divorce support groups. This program is nondenominational and features biblical teaching for recovering from divorce or separation.

Homeschool basketball will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11 at the Akeley Regional Community Center gym.
Participants will play a two-hour game every Friday at the ARCC. All home-educated children from 5- 18 years are encouraged to participate. Transportation is available.

The public is invited to celebrate Winter Trails Day with the Laurentian Lakes Chapter of the North Country Trail at Maplelag Resort Saturday, Jan. 12.
n Join a group to cross-country ski or snowshoe at 1 p.m. (meet in the lodge lobby).
n Learn more about wolves and northern Minnesota ecology and environmental issues with environmentalist Barry Babcock at 3:30 p.m.
n Check out the silent auction featuring outdoorsy items and unique local
artisans' products from 1 to 6 p.m.
All proceeds will go toward building, maintaining and promoting the NCT.
Laurentian Lakes Chapter's annual business meeting begins at 5:15 p.m. with a family-style dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 16
The Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF) will offer a training session in Crookston for first time board members, those considering board service or for current board members who want to refresh their knowledge.
The training will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16 at Mount St. Benedict in Crookston. Registrants' organizations are eligible for two hours of technical assistance provided by a local nonprofit consultant.
The cost of the session is $15 per participant. The deadline to register is Jan. 14. Registration is available online at www.nwmf.org, found under upcoming events on the homepage.
Ruth Sherman will be presenting the training. She worked in Child Protection and Family Services for 10 years. A passion for prevention and service outreach led her to the Bemidji Area Council of Nonprofits (now Community Resource Connections) in 1996.
