In the first game, the Panthers scored five times in the seventh inning and held off a Perham rally for a 9-8 victory before Park Rapids scored twice in the eighth inning only to see the Yellowjackets rally for three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 6-5 victory.

In the opener, an RBI single by Matt Bade and a two-run home run by Josh Severtson gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead in the third.

A double by Jon Burlingame and an RBI single by Brad Eischens made it 4-1 in the sixth before Perham took a 5-4 lead by scoring four times in the bottom of that inning.

A single by Jordan McCollum, an RBI double by Severtson, an RBI single by Connor Byer, a single by Rilee Johnson, an RBI double by Derek Porozinski and a two-run single by Burlingame gave the Panthers a 9-5 lead in the seventh.

Perham mounted a rally by scoring three times in the bottom of the seventh before Johnson recorded the final out for the save.

Severtson went 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBI, Bade went 2 for 2, Johnson went 2 for 4 and Burlingame went 2 for 3 with two RBI to pace the Panthers’ 14-hit attack. Tyler McCollum allowed one run on six hits with six strikeouts over the first five innings for the win.

The Panthers were in position for the sweep before Perham rallied for the split.

Singles by Jordan McCollum and Severtson set up a two-run single by Porozinski as the Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

After the Yellowjackets tied it at 2-2 in the third, Johnson was hit by a pitch and scored on an error to give Park Rapids a 3-2 lead in the sixth.

Perham tied it in the bottom of the inning before the Panthers claimed a 5-3 lead in the eighth on Burlingame’s two-run homer.

But five singles enabled the Yellowjackets to score three times in the bottom of the eighth to earn the split.

Jordan McCollum went 2 for 4, Severtson went 2 for 3, Porozinski went 2 for 4 with two RBI, Burlingame went 2 for 4 with two RBI, and Eischens went 2 for 4 to lead the Panthers’ 10-hit attack. Johnson took the loss in relief.

The split left both teams with 3-1 records in conference play. The Panthers are 5-2 overall.
