Having almost everyone clock a season-best or lifetime-best time helped the Panthers snap a 12-meet losing streak with a 98-82 win over Perham Thursday night at the Area High School pool. That victory was the first for the Panthers since defeating Thief River Falls 101-76 in January of 2008.

Connor Smythe, Ryan McBrady, Sam Goebel and Ben Kading opened the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:53.12.

Zach Eystad followed by winning the 200 freestyle in 2:04.37 before McBrady (2:22.71) and Zach Lohmeier (2:35.35) went 1-2 in the 200 individual medley.

Nick Belfiori (24.51) and Smythe (25.37) finished 1-2 in the 50 freestyle and Kalvin Hagan took first in diving with 145.85 points as the Panthers claimed a 49-28 lead.

Goebel won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.83, Belfiori took first in the 100 freestyle in 54.97 and Goebel led the way in the 500 freestyle in 5:34.93 as Park Rapids pushed its lead to 81-44.

Smythe, Kading, Lohmeier and Belfiori won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:43.62 and Smythe took first in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.49 as the Panthers led 98-51 with two events to go.

The Panthers swam exhibition in the final two events. McBrady would have won the 100 breaststroke with a 1:06.19 while Goebel, Eystad, McBrady and Belfiori would have won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:45.90.

"The guys swam extremely well. We had all but four swims that were season bests or lifetime bests and most of those were lifetime bests," said Park Rapids head coach Todd Fritze. "There were a lot of close races and we won a lot of those. I'm happy with the win, but we still have a lot of work to do."

Park Rapids and Perham swam to a 75-75 tie in the junior varsity meet. Leading the Panthers with winning times were Chris Shaw in the 200 freestyle (2:42.02); James Wells in the 50 freestyle (29.02); Tyler Breitweser in diving (92.15 points); Dillon Schroeder in the 100 breaststroke (1:37.28); and Shaw, Matt Konshok, Bobby Bruce and Fred Stinar in the 400 freestyle relay (5:05.88).
