Panthers sweep W-DC
Tucker Coborn and Kevin McMorrow pitched complete games in leading the Park Rapids baseball team to a Mid-State Conference doubleheader sweep at Wadena-Deer Creek Tuesday.
Coborn scattered 14 hits and was aided by a grand-slam homer by McMorrow and solo homers by Paul Dirks and Cody Schirmers as Park Rapids won the opener 13-5. McMorrow followed with a nine-hitter as the Panthers earned the sweep with a 6-4 victory.
In other Park Rapids high school events Tuesday:
Wadena-Deer Creek remained undefeated in conference play by defeating Park Rapids 14-3 and 3-2 at Park Rapids.
The Park Rapids boys tennis team blanked Wadena-Deer Creek for the second time this season with a 7-0 win at Wadena.
Park Rapids finished fourth in the girls meet and 11th in the boys meet at the Section 8AA True Team track and field meet at Vern Weekley Field. Rachel Thelen won the pole vault and the 4 x 800-meter relay team of Lydia Lutz, Sophie Shogren, Hannah Wolff and Victoria Lutz took first to lead the Panthers, who tallied 432 points. East Grand Forks claimed the girls title with 509.50 points. Devon Ondracek took first in the discus as the Park Rapids boys compiled 223 points. Fergus Falls won the boys title with 548 points.
