Panthers sweep pair from W-DC

     Park Rapids capitalized on 26 walks and eight errors to sweep a Mid-State Conference fastpitch softball doubleheader from Wadena-Deer Creek Friday at Wadena.

     In the first game, the Panthers combined eight hits with 13 walks and three errors for a 12-3 victory.

     After four walks and two errors gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead in the first inning, singles by Brooke Jerger, Bailee Jerger and Shania Johnson and two wild pitches made it 6-0 in the second.

     Sarena Kinkel’s RBI single in the fourth made it 7-0 before Lauren Naeve’s two-run double gave the Panthers a 9-2 lead in the sixth.

     Johnson’s RBI double and Charity Ridlon’s two-run single concluded Park Rapids’ scoring in the seventh.

     Shania Johnson went 2 for 5 while Brooke Jerger, Hope Johnson, Bailee Jerger and Nikki Eischens scored two runs each. Bailee Jerger picked up the win, allowing one earned run on three hits with 10 strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings.

     A six-run first inning sparked the Panthers to the sweep in the second game.

     Shania Johnson’s two-run double, Bailee Jerger’s RBI single, four walks and a wild pitch gave the Panthers a quick 6-0 lead.

     In the second, four walks and an RBI single by Eischens made it 9-1 before three errors, two wild pitches, and RBI singles by Ridlon and Tara Johanning gave the Panthers a 13-1 advantage in the third.

     A single by Shania Johnson and Bailee Jerger’s two-run double  sparked a four-run fourth inning before the Panthers ended this game via the 10-run rule on Bailee Jerger’s RBI single in the fifth.

     Bailee Jerger went 3 for 3 with three runs and five RBI, Shania Johnson went 2 for 4 with three runs, Ridlon scored three runs and drove in three runs, and Jessie O’Hern scored twice to lead the Panthers’ offensive attack. Morgan Dean earned the win.

     The sweep gave the Panthers a 3-1 record in the conference and a 6-2 overall mark. W-DC fell to 0-4 in the conference and 0-5 overall.
