Despite belting out eight hits, the Panthers left nine runners on base in a 3-1 loss in the opener.

The second game was a different story as 18 hits sparked a 22-3 victory in five innings.

In the opener, the Panthers scored their only run in the fifth when Lauren Naeve reached on an error, advanced to third on singles by Ashley Thelen and Shania  Johnson, and scored on another error.

Perham scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to pull off the win.

Thelen went 2 for 4 and Nakkita Buckanaga went 2 for 3 to lead the Panthers’ offense. Bailee Jerger struck out nine and allowed two earned runs on six hits in a complete-game effort.

The Panthers capitalized on 10 Perham errors in the second game to salvage the split.

Five errors, a pair of singles by Shania Johnson and doubles by Buckanaga and Hope Johnson led to a nine-run first inning.

After singles by Jerger, Hope Johnson and Jessie O’Hern produced two runs in the second, the Panthers expanded their lead to 18-0 in the third by scoring seven times on doubles by Buckanaga and Jerger, singles by O’Hern and Shania Johnson and four errors.

Singles by Nikki Eischens and Jerger and a double by Naeve led to two runs in the fourth before doubles by Sarena Kinkel and Jerger produced the Panthers’ final two runs in the fifth.

Jerger went 5 for 5 with four RBI, Shania Johnson went 3 for 4, while Buckanaga, Eischens, Hope Johnson and O’Hern had two hits apiece. Jerger allowed eight hits in going the distance.

Park Rapids ended the regular season with an 8-4 record in the conference and 12-7 overall mark. Perham is 3-7 in Mid-State games and 5-10 overall.
