Panthers split with Cardinals
Despite being held to only six hits, the Park Rapids fastpitch softball team managed to split a Mid-State Conference doubleheader at Staples-Motley Tuesday.
The Panthers used a pair of two-out hits to win the opener 4-3 before Staples-Motley earned the split with a 10-1 win in the second game.
In the opener, Nakkita Buckanaga’s two-out single scored Ashley Thelen in the third before a walk to Katelyn Hilmanowski, a bunt single by Nikki Eischens and a walk to Jessie O’Hern set up a three-run double by Lauren Naeve with two outs in the fourth to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead.
Bailee Jerger allowed eight hits and struck out six for the win.
The Panthers managed only two hits in the second game and scored their only run in the first when Buckanaga singled and scored on a passed ball.
Jerger allowed nine runs on eight hits in taking the loss.
The split left Park Rapids with a 7-3 record in the conference and 8-3 overall record while the Cardinals are now 5-3.
