Panthers put away W-DC with late flurry
Dan Ricke and Kyle Kanten scored two goals a piece and Kevin McMorrow had two assists to lead the Park Rapids-Menahga boys hockey team to a 5-1 Mid-State Conference win over Wadena-Deer Creek Thursday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.
Ricke's first goal tied the game at 1-1 in the first period. Levi Erickson assisted on that goal at the 3:33 mark.
After a scoreless second period, the Panthers scored four times in the final 6:35 of the third period to seal the win.
Tucker Coborn and McMorrow assisted on Ricke's game-winning goal on the power play at the 6:35 mark. Ricke and McMorrow set up Coborn 12 seconds later before San Coborn assisted on Kanten's first goal of the game with 5:56 to play. Kanten concluded the scoring with a shorthanded goal with 1:09 left.
Mark Bravo made 14 saves for the win as Park Rapids improved to 1-1 in the conference and 4-3 overall.
Tyler Muehler made 47 saves for W-DC, which fell to 1-6 overall.
