Panthers outscored 15-3 in three losses

The Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team was outscored 15-3 in losses to International Falls, Crookston and Thief River Falls.

International Falls handed the Panthers their second shutout of the season with a 2-0 win last Tuesday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

The Panthers dropped a pair of games at Thief River Falls, losing to Crookston 4-2 on Friday and to the host Prowlers 9-1 on Saturday.

The two losses dropped the Panthers to 1-5 on the season.

Broncos shut out Panthers

International Falls goalie Keanna Carlson stopped all 25 shots she faced in shutting out the Panthers.

A power-play goal by Amy Auran in the second period and a goal by Hillary Fox in the third period provided the only scoring in the game.

Goalie Shania Johnson made 27 saves for the Panthers.

Pirates edge Panthers

Crookston scored a power-play goal, a shorthanded goal and an empty-net goal to defeat the Panthers.

After a scoreless first period, Marietta Geist scored on the power play and Brianna Breiland scored shorthanded to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.

Abby Fischer and Hannah Williams assisted on a power-play goal by Bailee Jerger with 40 seconds to go in the second period and Williams opened the third period with another power-play goal as the Panthers tied the game at 2-2 just 17 seconds into the final period.

Amber Trostad's goal less than two minutes later proved to be the game-winner. Breiland ended the game with an empty-net goal as the Pirates held a 50-19 advantage in shots in the game.

The win lifted Crookston, which is rated No. 15 in this week's state Class A poll, to 2-2 on the season.

Shania Johnson made 46 saves for the Panthers.

Prowlers stay undefeated with win

Morgan Martell's hat trick led the Prowlers, who used a 58-14 advantage in shots on goal to defeat the Panthers Saturday.

Martell's goal gave TRF a 1-0 lead after the first period before a goal by Sylvia Marolt, two goals by Ava Marolt and another goal by Martell gave the Prowlers a 5-0 lead after the second period. The Prowlers held a 22-0 advantage in shots in the second period.

After Williams and Fischer set up a goal by Jessie O'Hern to start the third period, TRF responded with goals by Martell, Sylvia Marolt, Brandi Malwitz and Alexee Nelson to seal the win and improve to 4-0 on the season. TRF is rated No. 5 in this week's state Class A poll.

Moore had 49 saves in the loss.
