Panthers ousted by walk-off home run
Cody Conners' walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Thief River Falls a 6-5 win over Park Rapids in the first round of the Section 8AA baseball playoffs Thursday at Thief River Falls.
The No. 6-seeded Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Thief River Falls rallied to advance.
In the first inning, walks to Cody Schirmers and Dylan Walsh and a single by Tucker Coborn set up a three-run double by Kevin Vaadeland to give Park Rapids a 3-0 lead.
Vaadeland led off the third with a double and scored on Justin Peterson's grounder to give the Panthers a 4-0 edge.
Zach Sorenson's two-run homer with two outs in the third and Myles Keefe's two-run double in the fourth helped the No. 3-seeded Prowlers tie the game.
Park Rapids took a 5-4 lead in the sixth on singles by Jack Mercado, Cory Odland and Dan Pike and a sacrifice fly by Schirmers.
Thief River Falls rallied for the win on an error and Conners' game-winning home run with one out in the seventh.
Kevin McMorrow went the distance for the Panthers, allowing six runs on six hits. Coborn, Vaadeland and Odland had two hits each as the Panthers ended with a 7-14 record.

Panthers pound Bagley
The Panthers closed out the regular season with a 15-2 five-inning victory over Bagley on May 21.
Park Rapids sent 19 batters to the plate and scored 15 runs with two outs in the second inning to spark the win.
Mercado's two-run single with two outs started the outburst. A single by McMorrow, a two-run double by Coborn, an RBI double by Walsh, an RBI double by Peterson, another two-run single by Mercado, and doubles by Schirmers and Walsh were the other key hits.
Vaadeland went the distance, throwing a two-hitter while striking out 10.
