Panthers open softball, tennis playoffs at home
Both the Park Rapids fastpitch softball team and boys tennis team received top-four seeds and will open the first round of section playoff action at home Tuesday.
The Park Rapids softball team earned the No. 2 seed in the north half of Section 8AA and will play No. 7 Crookston Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Area HIgh School field. The winner of that game advances to Thief River Falls Thursday to play the winner between No. 3 Roseau or No. 6 Detroit Lakes at 4 p.m. Win or lose, another game will follow at 6.
Tuesday's other first-round matches in the north half pit No. 1 Thief River Falls against No. 8 East Grand Forks and No. 4 Warroad against No. 5 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
Frazee will host the next rounds of the section tournament on Saturday with games at 1:30, 3:30 and 5:30. The site for the section title game on May 28 will be determined after the games at Frazee are completed.
In the Section 8A boys tennis tournament, Park Rapids received the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 Detroit Lakes Tuesday at 4:30 at the Depot Courts. The winner plays No. 1 Thief River Falls Wednesday morning at Perham at 10:30. The section title match will follow at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday's other first-round matches pit No. 2 East Grand Forks against No. 7 Wadena-Deer Creek and No. 3 Crookston against No. 6 Perham.
The individual portion of the section tournament will begin Wednesday at 3 at Perham and will conclude on Thursday with quarterfinal play beginning at 10 a.m.

Luke Gable threw a four-hitter in leading Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton to a 4-2 win over the Park Rapids baseball team Thursday at Park Rapids.
The Park Rapids boys tennis team ended the regular season with a 6-1 loss at Crookston Thursday.
Both Park Rapids track teams finished fourth at Thursday's Mid-State Conference meet at Detroit Lakes. Earning all-conference honors with winning performances were Mike McDowell in the high jump for the boys and Lydia Lutz in the 3,200-meter run; Lutz, Shelby Pierce, Hannah Wolff and Victoria Lutz in the 4 x 800 relay; and Shannon Taylor, Grace Bateman, Mady Vaudrin and Rachel Thelen in the 4 x 200 relay for the girls.
Sebeka scored seven unearned runs in the third inning to defeat the Park Rapids softball team 7-5 Friday night at Sebeka in the regular-season finale.
