The Park Rapids girls basketball team faced early halftime deficits in losses to Wadena-Deer Creek and Pelican Rapids.

W-DC jumped out to a 38-13 lead at the break en route to a 57-19 Mid-State Conference win at Wadena Thursday night while Pelican Rapids used a 47-3 cushion at the half to spark a 78-24 win over the Panthers Saturday at the Area High School gym.

Park Rapids closed the regular season with a 1-24 record and received the No. 7 seed for the Section 8AA tournament. The Panthers will travel to No. 2 Crookston Thursday night for a 7 p.m. tip-off in the tournament opener. Crookston is 16-10 on the season.

In Thursday night's other first-round games in the north half of Section 8AA, No. 3 Pequot Lakes hosts No. 6 Bagley and No. 4 Warroad hosts No. 5 Roseau. The north semifinals move to Bemidji State Saturday night. Crosby-Ironton is the No. 1 seed in the north.

In the south half, No. 1 Hawley hosts No. 8 Barnesville, No. 4 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton hosts No. 5 Perham, No. 2 Pelican Rapids hosts No. 7 Breckenridge and No. 3 Wadena-Deer Creek hosts No. 6 Frazee Thursday night. Concordia College hosts the south semifinals Saturday night.

Miron leads W-DC to win

Emily Miron scored 26 points to surpass 1,000 in her career in leading W-DC past the Panthers.

Avery Jackson added 10 points for the Wolverines, who improved to 6-4 in conference play and 19-7 overall.

Katie Klein (7) and Tori Lauderbaugh (4) combined for 11 points while Grimes had six rebounds to lead the Panthers, who fell to 0-10 in the conference.

Fast start sparks Vikings

Pelican Rapids jumped out to a 33-0 lead en route to closing the regular season with a win.

Bailey Strand converted three three-point plays while Mackenzie Korf and Mackenzie Strand hit 3-pointers to lead the Vikings in the early going.

Lauderbaugh's jumper with 2:44 to play in the first half ended Pelican Rapids' run. Lauderbaugh followed by hitting a free throw at the 2:03 mark before a 3-pointer by Bailey Strand gave the Vikings a 47-3 lead at the intermission.

The Panthers opened the second half with a 10-8 run as Klein and Megan Grimes hit two jumpers apiece to offset a pair of 3-pointers by Mackenzie Strand. Baskets by Charity Ridlon and Grimes made it 68-18 with 11:00 remaining.

Two free throws by Klein, a jumper by Katelyn Hilmanowski and a layup off a steal by Morgan Olson concluded the scoring for the Panthers.

Grimes (7) and Klein (6) combined for 13 points to lead the Panthers. Grimes also led the way with six rebounds and three blocked shots while Ridlon had three steals.

Bailey Strand finished with 22 points and Mackenzie Strand added 13 points as Pelican Rapids improved to 21-5 on the season.
