Panthers open football playoffs at Pequot Lakes

The Park Rapids football team will enter the Section 8AAA playoffs at the No. 8 seed following a 27-19 loss to West Central Area Thursday night at the Fargodome.

The Panthers, who ended the regular season with an 0-8 record, will open section play at No. 1 Pequot Lakes Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Pequot Lakes, which will enter the playoffs with a 7-1 record, defeated Park Rapids 36-0 in Week 4. Pequot Lakes is ranked No. 11 in the latest state Class AAA poll.

The other Section 8AAA quarterfinal games Tuesday pit No. 2 Crookston (5-3) against No. 7 Roseau (2-6), No. 3 Thief River Falls (5-3) against No. 6 Perham (2-6), and No. 4 East Grand Forks (5-3) against No. 5 Staples-Motley (5-3).

The section semifinals will be played Saturday at the high seeds with the Section 8AAA championship game set for Nov. 5 at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.

Nevis used a 40-12 win over Kelliher-Northome Wednesday night to lock up the No. 2 seed for the Section 6 9-man playoffs. The Tigers (6-2) will host No. 7 Northland (0-8) Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The other first-round games in Section 6 pit No. 3 Ulen-Hitterdal (5-2) against No. 6 Norman County West (1-7) and No. 4 Norman County East (5-3) against No. 5 Waubun (3-5). No. 1 Ada-Borup (7-1) receives a bye. The semifinals will be at the high seeds Saturday with the championship game set for Nov. 5 at the Alerus Center.

United North Central ended the regular season with a 47-12 loss to Upsala/Swanville Area Wednesday night and received the No. 6 seed for the Section 8AA playoffs. The Warriors (3-5) will play at No. 3 Pelican Rapids (4-4) at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The other first-round games in Section 8AA find No. 1 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (6-2) hosting No. 8 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley (0-8), No. 4 Hawley (5-3) hosting No. 5 Warroad (3-5), and No. 2 Frazee (6-2) hosting No. 7 Bagley (2-6).

The high seeds will host semifinal games Saturday afternoon with the championship game moving to the Fargodome on Nov. 5.
