  Charity Ridlon and Natalie Kinkel advanced to championship singles matches as the Park Rapids girls tennis team opened the season by hosting its annual invitational tournament Saturday.

     Ridlon lost to Roseau’s Bailey Janzen in the championship match at No. 2 singles while Kinkel lost to Minnewaska’s Myranda Thoen in the title match at No. 4 singles as the Panthers finished fifth as a team with 19 points. Minnewaska captured the team title with 26 points while Thief River Falls took second with 24 points. Moorhead and Roseau tied for third place with 21 points.

     The Panthers had two doubles team finish third and added two consolation titles. Sarena Kinkel and Lindsey Girtz finished third at No. 1 doubles and Drew Hilmanowski and Kellsey Clark took third at No. 3 doubles. Mariena Dearstyne won the consolation title at No. 3 singles while Ali Walsh and Morgan Knott won the consolation title at No. 2 doubles. Hope Johnson took sixth at No. 1 singles.

Team scores: Minnewaska 26, Thief River Falls 24, Moorhead 21, Roseau 21, Park Rapids 19, Fergus Falls 10, East Grand Forks 6, Wadena-Deer Creek 3.

Hope Johnson (No. 1 singles): lost to Chessa Jones, EGF, 6-0, 6-2; defeated Sarah Taylor, FF, 6-1, 6-4; lost to Karlee Jorgenson, TRF, 6-3, 6-1 (6th).

Charity Ridlon ( No. 2 singles): defeated Taylor Leapaldt, FF, 6-1, 6-0; defeated Carley Lansetter, TRF, 6-0, 6-3; lost to Bailey Janzen, R, 6-3, 6-4 (2nd).

Mariena Dearstyne (No. 3 singles): lost to Marrisa Jerne, R, 6-4, 6-0; defeated Samantha Hansen 6-0, 6-0; defeated Abby Westrom, WDC, 6-3, 6-1 (5th).

Natalie Kinkel (No. 4 singles): defeated Allie Fagerstrom, TRF, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8; defeated Erika Hoberg, Mhd, 6-3, 6-1; lost to Myranda Thoen, Minn, 6-3, 6-1 (2nd).

Sarena Kinkel/Lindsey Girtz (No. 1 doubles): defeated Maddie Mueller/Ally Grimley, Mhd, 6-1, 6-2; lost to Rachel Riley/Makenna Hanson, Minn, 6-3, 6-2; defeated Kari Walvatne/Morgan Daniels, EGF, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 (3rd).
