Panthers' late rally falls short at Wadena
A late rally fell short as West Central Area hung on for a 38-35 victory over the Park Rapids wrestling team Tuesday night at Barrett.
Ben Baumgartner opened the meet with a pin in 2:51 at 103 pounds and Dylan Holmer followed with a pin in 1:34 at 125 to give the Panthers a 12-9 lead.
The Knights then won the next six matches to build an insurmountable 38-12 advantage.
Park Rapids ended the match with four victories. Jared Nash dominated in a 16-1 technical fall win at 171 and Brandon Ritter recorded a pin in 1:21 at 215. Nash used two takedowns and a reversal in the first period, a reversal in the second period, and three nearfalls in the third period to dominate his match.
John Drury received a forfeit win at 189 and Kenny Weaver received a forfeit win at heavyweight as the Panthers fell to 8-10 in dual meets.
The Panthers traveled to Wadena-Deer Creek for a Mid-State Conference meet Thursday night and will enter a tournament at Fertile-Beltrami on Feb. 6.
