Panthers hold off Braves Menahga

Christine Malm served the final nine points to seal Park Rapids' 25-18, 22-25, 25-17, 25-21 volleyball victory over Menahga Tuesday night at the Area High School gym.

Menahga held a 21-16 lead in Game 4 before a kill by Hailey Lundin started the Panthers' comeback. Ayana Hartman had three consecutive kills before an ace serve by Malm gave Park Rapids a 22-21 lead. Another kill by Hartman, a kill by Lundin and a spike by Hartman capped off the win.

Malm also served the Panthers to a 9-3 lead in Game 1 with an ace and six points. Two spikes by Hart-man, tips by Hannah Wolff and Leeza Tostenson, and ace serves by Heather Tret-bar and Tostenson gave the Panthers a 22-14 advantage. Tamra Haapala had three kills and Vanessa Burkman contributed a spike and block for Men-ahga during that stretch. A tip by Wolff and a spike by Hartman closed out Game 1.

Two kills by Haapala and a kill and ace serve by Burkman sparked Men-ahga to an 8-6 lead in Game 2. Two kills by Hartman and an ace serve by Tosten-son rallied the Panthers to a 19-11 advantage before Hannah Dissmore served nine consecutive points. Spikes by Leana Bruer and Burkman, tips by Megan Cleveland and Haapala, a dig by Rachael Bruer and two aces by Dissmore gave Menahga a 21-19 edge. A tip by Hartman helped the Panthers tie the game at 22-22 before Haapala served out the game with an ace.

A kill by Wolff, two tips by Tretbar, two kills by Hartman, and an ace serve by Malm led to a 12-8 lead for the Panthers in Game 3. Haapala and Rachael Bruer had tips by Men-ahga during that span. Two kills by Dissmore and a block by Haapala kept Menahga within 15-12 be-fore the Panthers closed out the game behind kills by Lundin and Hartman, three kills by Tretbar, and a tip and ace serve by Tostenson.

An ace serve by Rachael Bruer, two blocks by Burk-man, and kills by Kati Nei-sess and Haapala helped give Menahga a 21-15 lead in Game 4 before the Panthers rallied.

Hartman finished with 20 kills while Malm had 23 service points and 16 digs to lead the Panthers, who improved to 5-7 on the season.

Panthers split matches

The Panthers split matches at last Saturday's Pine Lakes tournament at Pine River and Pequot Lakes.

Park Rapids opened with a 25-17, 25-15 loss to Hill City before defeating Cass Lake (25-18, 25-11) and Pequot Lakes (25-17, 25-15). The Panthers lost to Sebeka 25-23, 25-20 in the final match.

Wolff and Hartman had five kills each, Tostenson served six points, Malm had 13 digs and Tretbar had 10 set assists in the loss to Hill City.

Laura Haugland's five kills, Tostenson's 11 service points, and Tretbar's two ace serves and nine set assists led the Panthers past Cass Lake.

In the win over Pequot Lakes, Wolff's six kills and Tostenson's five ace serves led the way. Malm added 11 service points and 13 digs while Lundin had 12 digs.

Haugland, Hartman and Wolff combined for 16 kills to lead the Panthers against Sebeka. Malm added two ace serves and 14 digs.
