The Panthers used a 14-2 run to start the second half to expand a 43-34 lead to 57-36 en route to an 86-51 victory Saturday at the Area High School gym.

The 86 points were the most for the Panthers since an 88-63 win over Wadena-Deer Creek in February of 2007 and the 35-point win was the biggest margin of victory since a 100-41 win over Pine River-Backus in January of 2007.

"The kids executed tremendously," said Brandt. "The big thing was they didn't take their foot off the pedal. We had the momentum at halftime and the kids came out in the second half and got after it. Our defense led to a lot of transition offense. It was a very fun game."

Austin Carlson opened the game with a layup and an assist on a 3-pointer by Tyler McCollum as the Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Park Rapids would maintain the lead the rest of the way.

Two layups by Chris Goplerud, a jumper by Tyler McCollum, a 3-pointer by Jordan McCollum, three baskets off rebounds by Rilee Johnson, two inside baskets by Tyler McCollum and a basket off a steal by Cory Gartner pushed the Panthers' advantage to 30-19 with 6:42 to play in the first half.

After Bagley closed the gap to 30-27 at the 4:36 mark, a jumper by Zach Jewison and a 3-pointer by Gartner gave Park Rapids a 35-27 edge.

The Flyers cut that lead to 35-33 with 2:31 to go before halftime, but the Panthers responded with an 8-1 run as four free throws by Tyler McCollum, a layup by Kyle Goplerud and a jumper by Gartner provided a 43-34 lead at the half.

Park Rapids broke the game open at the start of the second half as a jumper by Chris Goplerud, a there-point play by Andy Waller, a 3-pointer and two baskets by Tyler McCollum, and a layup by Johnson made it 57-36 with 12:22 to play.

A three-point play by Tyler McCollum, a jumper by Johnson, a basket off a rebound and two free throws by Kyle Goplerud, and layups by Gartner and Johnson pushed the lead to 73-45 with 4:32 to go.

Consecutive layups by Johnson, a jumper and two free throws by Kyle Goplerud, a basket off a rebound by Jewison, and a layup by Jordan McCollum helped the Panthers end the game with a 13-6 run.

Tyler McCollum led the Panthers with 23 points while Johnson had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Kyle Goplerud added 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals while Gartner finished with 12 points and four steals. Chris Goplerud pulled down seven rebounds while Carlson finished with five assists as the Panthers improved to 1-2 on the season.
