Panthers finish in third place at tournament with wins over Sebeka, Hawley

     Three solid performances by the pitching staff led the Park Rapids baseball team to third place at the 19th annual Park Rapids Invitational.

     Jordan McCollum and Rilee Johnson combined on a two-hitter as the Panthers opened the tournament with a 7-0 win over Sebeka Friday night.

     Tyler McCollum followed with a four-hitter over six innings, but East Grand Forks rallied by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-3 win in Saturday’s semifinals.

     Drew Bade’s two-hitter sparked the Panthers to a 9-1 win over Hawley in Saturday’s third-place game.

     East Grand Forks defeated Menahga 11-1 in the championship game. Wheaton defeated Frazee 10-5 in the consolation final while Staples-Motley defeated Sebeka 14-2 in the seventh-place game.

Panthers shut down Sebeka

     Jordan McCollum didn’t allow a hit and struck out six over the first four innings while Johnson gave up two hits and struck out three over the final three innings to lead the Panthers past Sebeka.

     Derek Porozinski’s RBI single and Jon Burlingame’s two-run double led to three runs in the first. RBI grounders by Burlingame and Brad Eischens led to two runs in the fifth. Johnson’s RBI triple and Burlingame’s RBI grounder accounted for the final two runs in the seventh.

     Johnson scored three runs, Porozinski went 2 for 3 and Burlingame had four RBI to lead the Panthers’ offense.

EGF rallies for 4-3 victory

     The Panthers were in position to advance to the title game before three singles, an error, a double steal and a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh gave EGF the win.

     Two errors helped the Panthers score twice in the third and a double by Eischens and sacrifice fly by Chase Brand led to a run in the seventh as the Panthers led 3-1.

     Park Rapids was held to only three hits while Porozinski took the loss. Only one of EGF’s four runs was earned.

Bade pitches Panthers past Hawley

     A nine-hit attack backed up Bade’s complete game as the Panthers closed out the tournament with a win.

     Drew Bade’s RBI double sparked a two-run first while RBI singles by Matt Bade and Johnson, two errors and four walks led to four runs in the second. RBI singles by Jordan McCollum and Johnson produced the final three runs in the sixth.

     Johnson went 2 for 4 with two RBI and Matt Bade went 2 for 3 to lead the offense.
