Park Rapids' Kyja Penning and Kirsten Erickson capped off their senior season with solid performances at Saturday's Section 8A gymnastics meet at Perham.

Penning was the Panthers' top performer in three individual events and finished 14th in all-around as Park Rapids finished fifth in the team standings with 119.30 points. That team score was the second highest for the Panthers this season.

Perham led the seven-team field with 151.65 points to win its eighth consecutive section title while Detroit Lakes was second with 148.575 points. Fergus Falls (132.875) and Little Falls (132.525) followed. Perham was rated No. 1 and Detroit Lakes was ranked No. 2 in the latest state Class A poll.

Park Rapids' best event was vault where Penning tied her season best with an 8.65, Jessica Andersen received an 8.40, Emily Klingenberg matched her season high with an 8.30 and Ellen Hoffman had an 8.05 for a 33.40. That was the Panthers' second-highest score of the season in vault.

The Panthers also tallied their second highest team score in floor exercise with a 30.275. Penning's season-best 8.575, Andersen's 7.30, Erickson's 7.25 and Klingenberg's 7.15 led the Panthers. Erickson had her second best performance of the season in that event.

On balance beam, the Panthers received a 28.425 behind Andersen's 7.275, Penning's 7.25, Katherine Erickson's 7.10 and Klingenberg's 6.80.

Penning's 8.00 led the Panthers to a 27.20 team score on uneven parallel bars. Cassie Baxter's 6.625, Andersen's 6.575 and Klingenberg's 6.00 completed Park Rapids' team score in that event.

In all-around, Penning finished 14th with a 32.475, Andersen was 20th with a 29.55 and Klingenberg was 25th with a 28.25. Detroit Lakes' Amy Crawford won the all-around title with a 38.40.

Taking first in the individual events were Perham's Carly Petersen in vault with a 9.80, Crawford on bars with a 9.725, Perham's Kelsi Vomacka on beam with a 9.75 and Perham's Mikaela Eickschen in floor with a 9.70.

The top four individuals in each event advance to the state Class A meet, which begins Friday at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion. Perham is seeking to win its seventh state Class A title in a row.
