Panthers finish 1-2 at Pelican

The Park Rapids girls cross-country team placed five girls in the top six spots in running away with the title at Monday's Pelican Rapids Invitational.

Lydia Lutz led the eight-team field with a winning time of 15 minutes, 55 seconds over the 4,000-meter course. Lutz is currently rated as the No. 9 runner in this week's state Class A poll.

Shelby Pierce was third in 16:35, Summer Ellefson placed fourth in 17:08, Lora Remus was fifth in 17:29 and Megan Olson finished sixth in 17:32 as the Panthers scored 19 points. Kaylee Hilmanowski was 12th in 18:26 and Morgan Olson finished 13th in 18:32 for the Panthers, who are rated No. 9 in this week's state Class A poll. Pelican Rapids finished a distant second with 55 points.

In the boys race, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton took first with 38 points while the Panthers tallied 45 points to edge Pelican Rapids for second place.

Leading the Panthers was Isaac Overmyer, who earned runner-up honors by covering the 5,000-meter course in 18:01. Jake Waggoner (seventh in 18:53) and Bailey Mueller (ninth in 19:06) also posted top-10 efforts for the Panthers. Ryan McBrady (14th in 19:47) and Tanner Otterness (17th in 19:53) rounded out Park Rapids' team score while Nate Carlson (27th in 20:44), Brad Eischens (31st in 21:08) and Jacob Hays (33rd in 21:17) completed the Panthers' varsity. D-G-F's Tyler Hennen led the field with a winning time of 17:58.

In the junior varsity races, Abby Mueller (19:16) and Maya Johnson (19:20) finished 1-2 in the girls 4,000-meter race while Austin Carlson (second in 22:17), Adam Mackley (fifth in 23:11), Matthew Konshok (seventh in 23:28), Nick Schultz (eighth in 23:55), Cody Brumbaugh (ninth in 24:16), Nathanel Rairdon (10th in 24:22) and Ben Kading (12th in 25:59) led the Panthers to first place with 15 points. Jacob Bridgman (22nd in 15:14), Cole Coborn (23rd in 15:24) and Zach Nelson (37th in 19:26) competed for the Panthers in the boys 3,200-meter race.

The Panthers will compete in the Fosston/Bagley Invitational at Bagley Tuesday.
