Panthers fall in home finale

Pequot Lakes controlled play at the net with 38 kills and 11 blocks en route to a 25-19, 25-10, 25-8 Mid-State Conference win at Park Rapids Tuesday night.

The Patriots jumped out to a 5-0 lead in Set 1 before a block by Olivia Vaadeland and a kill by Justine Rittgers closed the gap to 6-4. Another kill by Rittgers, a kill and tip by Vaadeland, and a kill by Mady Vaudrin kept the Panthers within 19-15 before Pequot Lakes closed out the opening set.

A kill by Katelyn Hilmanowski tied Set 2 at 6-6 before Sabrina Aldin and Nicole Traut combined for 10 service points to give Pequot Lakes a 17-7 advantage. A kill by Megan Grimes ended that run and Vaadeland followed with a kill to make it 20-10 before Kristin Rettkowski served out the final four points.

Pequot Lakes took charge in Set 3 as Katie White served the Patriots to a 7-0 lead. After a kill by Vaadeland, Abby Palmer served four points and Kayla Miller served six points to push Pequot Lakes' lead to 19-4. A kill by Vaudrin and an ace serve by Vaadeland made it 20-6 before Aldin served the Patriots to a 24-6 advantage. Vaudrin served an ace before Pequot Lakes ended it.

Palmer and Rachel Mott tallied nine kills each while Miller (8) and Traut (7) combined for 15 more kills. The Patriots also had 35 digs in improving to 3-2 in conference matches and 15-9 overall.

The Panthers closed out their conference schedule with a 1-4 record and fell to 6-15 overall.

Panthers fall to Rangers

Missy Foote had 11 of her team's 32 kills in leading Crosby-Ironton to a 25-18, 29-27, 16-25, 14-25, 15-10 conference win over the Panthers last Thursday night.

Amy Braer had 22 of the Rangers' 77 digs and Bailey Swensen had five ace serves and 24 set assists as the Rangers improved to 2-2 in conference matches and 8-10 overall.

Grimes led the Panthers with 13 kills while Vaadeland had 12 kills, 14 digs, three ace serves and three solo blocks. Grace Bateman served three aces and 14 points and led the Panthers with 16 digs while Shania Johnson had 16 service points and 15 set assists. Erika Jerger (12) and Grimes (10) also hit double digits in digs.
