While Perham captured the Section 8A title for the 11th year in a row, the Park Rapids-Nevis gymnastics team was able to end the season on a positive note Saturday.

Perham compiled 145.05 points to edge Detroit Lakes' 144.175 team score for the section title while the Panthers finished seventh in the eight-team meet at the Park Rapids Area High School gym with a season high of 98.10 points.

The Panthers' best event was vault where Taylor Drury's 8.10, Amy Klein's 8.05, Kayla Johnk's 7.90 and Nikki Eischens' 7.80 led to a 31.85. Detroit Lakes' Molly Lyngaas had the top mark of 9.60 while Little Falls' Rachelle LeBlanc (9.425), Perham's Jordan Martinson (9.40) and Detroit Lakes' Ally Berg (9.35) earned the other state berths.

Park Rapids opened the meet in floor exercise and received a 25.10 behind Klein's 7.05, Lindsey Girtz's 6.30, Eischens' 6.25, and a pair of 5.50s by Johnk and Drury. LeBlanc led the way with a 9.60 while Perham's Justine Meyer (9.45), Martinson (9.375) and Detroit Lakes' Johanna Jemberg (9.275) also qualified for state.

On balance beam, the Panthers closed with a 22.30 as Eischens' 6.15, Klein's 6.10, Johnk's 5.35 and Girtz's 4.70 led the way. LeBlanc had the top score with a 9.60 and joined Lyngaas (9.45), Meyer (9.30) and Martinson (9.25) as the state qualifiers in that event.

Drury's 5.95, Kylee Roy's 4.65, Johnk's 4.20 and Chloe Hauth's 4.05 gave the Panthers an 18.50 on uneven parallel bars. Lyngaas had the top score in that event with a 9.50 while LeBlanc (9.425), Martinson (9.30) and Perham's Alexis Peichel (9.225) advanced to state.

LeBlanc won the all-around title with a 38.05. Lyngaas followed with a 37.80 while Martinson (37.325) and Meyer (37.00) claimed the other state berths. Klein finished with a 25.15 all-around score while Johnk compiled a 22.95.

Perham (which was rated No. 9 in the latest state Class A poll with a 140.308 average) used marks of 36.80 on bars, 36.65 in floor, 36.15 in vault and 35.45 on beam to return to state. Detroit Lakes (which was rated No. 8 in the state Class A poll with a 140.875 average) tallied marks of 37.05 in vault, 36.875 in floor, 35.70 on beam and 34.55 on bars.
