Panthers end regular season with loss to TRF
Thief River Falls held a 54-7 advantage in shots on goal in closing the regular season with a 6-0 win over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team Thursday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.
Goals by Jordan Solheim and Megan Bergland gave the Prowlers a 2-0 lead after the first period.
The Prowlers dominated the rest of the game by holding a 25-1 advantage in shots in the second period and an 18-1 advantage in shots in the third period.
Solheim's second goal of the game gave TRF a 3-0 lead after the second period while goals by Caitlyn Hunt, Bergland and Becca Houske concluded the scoring in the third period.
Park Rapids goalie Shania Johnson made 48 saves while TRF goalie Frances Marshall saved all seven shots she faced.
The win dropped the Panthers to 3-6 against Section 8A teams and 12-11 overall while TRF improved to 7-3 in section games and 18-5-2 overall.
Park Rapids received the No. 5 seed for the section playoffs and will play at No. 4 Crookston Thursday night at 7. The winner of that game faces No. 1 Warroad next Monday night at 6 at Thief River Falls. No. 6 Lake of the Woods plays at No. 3 East Grand Forks in the other first-round game Thursday night. The winner of that game plays No. 2 Thief River Falls next Monday night at 8:15.
The Panthers split with Crookston during the regular season, winning 2-0 and losing 9-2.
