Panthers edge W-DC for first dual victory

Jeff Renner changed his lineup and it resulted in the first win of the season for the Park Rapids boys tennis team.

Scott Smith's three-set win at No. 1 singles was the deciding match as the Panthers edged Wadena-Deer Creek 4-3 in a Mid-State Conference dual Thursday at Wadena.

Calvin Bateman prevailed in straight sets at No. 4 singles, Jeff Dickinson and Jaden Olson posted a straight-set win at No. 2 doubles, and Iain Wallace and Jackson Kimball lost only one game in a straight-set win at No. 3 doubles to complete the victory.

The win in the Mid-State Conference opener gave Park Rapids a 1-4 record in dual meets.

No. 1 singles: Scott Smith, PR, over Austin Korkowski 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

No. 2 singles: Mike Paavola, WDC, over Chris Shaw 6-4, 6-0.

No. 3 singles: Drew Larson, WDC, over Mitch Fossen 6-4, 6-3.

No. 4 singles: Calvin Bateman, PR, over Eliah Anderson 6-2, 6-2.

No. 1 doubles: Shane Perry/Matt Green, WDC, over Josh Johnson/Nick Lopez 7-5, 6-4.

No. 2 doubles: Jeff Dickinson/ Jaden Olson, PR, over Edwin Kim/Mike Small 6-3, 6-1.

No. 3 doubles: Iain Wallace/Jackson Kimball, PR, over Nick Tork-kola/Nathan Daigneault 6-1, 6-0.
