Panthers edge S-M, claim title at Bagley
Even without one of its best runners, the Park Rapids girls cross-country team won its third title in a row Tuesday.
Lydia Lutz's winning time of 15 minutes, 37 seconds on the 4,000-meter course led the Panthers to the team title at the Bagley/Fosston Invitational. The Panthers tallied 93 points to edge Staples-Motley's 95 points for first place in this 19-team meet.
Morgan Olson finished 19th in 16:57. Tiffany Deitchler was 21st in 17:00, Kaylee Hilmanowski finished 27th in 17:17 and Summer Ellefson was 28th in 17:18 to round out the Panthers' winning team total. Victoria Lutz, who was the Panthers' No. 2 runner in the first three meets, didn't compete.
In the boys race, Nevis' Bryon Schuldt finished first by covering the 5,000-meter course in 16:40. Nevis' Hunter Schroeder finished 11th in 17:55.
Park Rapids placed 14th in this 21-team meet with 340 points. Taylor Kimball (26th in 18:32), Zac Haugland (79th in 20:01), Jake Waggoner (90th in 20:30), Sam Goebel (91st in 20:42) and Jacob Hays (102nd in 21:27) comprised the Panthers' team score. Bemidji won the team title with 45 points.
United North Central placed 15th in the girls race with 416 points. Jenny Johnson (77th in 19:38), Meg Isaacson (88th in 20:06), Jill Isaacson (89th in 20:07), Emily Keranen (92nd in 20:14) and Lindsey Josephson (107th in 22:43) led UNC.
The Warriors fielded an incomplete team in the boys race as Jonathan Miller (27th in 18:33), Luke Graham (103rd in 21:30) and Devon Tucker (122nd in 24:21) competed for UNC.
