Panthers drop conference games to Rangers, Patriots

Kurtis Moody's dunk helped spark a 19-0 run to open the game as the Pequot Lakes boys basketball team posted a 70-37 Mid-State Conference win over Park Rapids at the Area High School gym Tuesday night.

Taylor Kimball's 3-pointer at the 11:16 mark ended that run while a basket off a rebound by Chris Goplerud and jumpers by Josh Crist and Scott Wolff made it 24-9 with 9:08 to play in the first half.

Wolff's layup, Christian Ridlon's basket off a rebound, two free throws Kimball, and a jumper by Kyle Goplerud accounted for the rest of the scoring in the first half as the Panthers trailed 41-17.

The Patriots maintained the lead by outscoring Park Rapids 29-20 in the second half. Kimball led the Panthers with three 3-pointers and 11 points after the break.

Moody finished with 19 points while Tomas Parker added 15 points to lead the Patriots, who forced 27 turnovers in improving to 2-1 in conference play and 4-1 overall.

Kimball's 16 points, five assists and two steals led the Panthers, who fell to 0-3 in the conference and 0-4 overall. Kyle Goplerud, Chris Goplerud and Wolff had six rebounds each.

Balance keys Rangers' win

Caleb Baker, Michael Hoge and Daniel Hudrlik scored 12 points apiece in leading Crosby-Ironton to a 62-40 Mid-State Conference victory over the Panthers last Friday night at Crosby.

Kimball scored 14 points while Christian Ridlon had 12 points and seven rebounds to lead the Panthers, who trailed 26-13 at the half. Chris Goplerud grabbed six rebounds, Kimball and Christian Ridlon had two assists each, Tyler Ridlon had two steals and Wolff blocked two shots for the Panthers.

C-I improved to 1-1 in the conference and 3-1 overall.
