Panthers dominate in victory over Storm
Nine different players scored goals in leading the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team to a 10-0 victory over Morris/ Benson Tuesday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.
The Panthers finished with a 43-3 advantage in shots on goal en route to their fourth shutout victory of the season. Allie Bade and Ashley Thelen had three assists each as seven players registered assists.
Five different players tallied goals as the Panthers claimed a 6-0 lead after the first period.
Jessica Gapinski opened the scoring at the 14:00 mark on an assist from Lauren Naeve. Abby Fischer and Bade followed with goals in a span of 19 seconds. Thelen and Bade set up Fischer's goal at the 11:58 mark while Thelen assisted on Bade's goal at the 11:39 mark. Mady Vaudrin scored with 5:22 to play in the first period before Bade assisted on a goal by Lexi King at the 3:15 mark. Gapinski capped off the period with her second goal of the game with 40 seconds left. Park Rapids outshot the Storm 22-0 in the opening period.
Marienna Dearstyne and Hannah Gorder set up Makenna Persing to open the second period before goals by Christina Smith and Alex Pederson gave the Panthers a 9-0 lead. Thelen and Abby Fischer had assists on Smith's goal at the 10:52 mark while Naeve assisted on Pederson's goal at the 8:54 mark.
Bade and Danika Aletto assisted on Julia Renner's goal with 5:31 to play to conclude the scoring.
Goalie Bailey Moore saved all three shots she faced as the Panthers evened their record at 7-7.
The Storm, who have been outscored 126-9 this season and shut out seven times, fell to 1-10. The Panthers defeated Morris/Benson 12-0 in the season opener.
