The Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team turned in a dominating performance Thursday night in shutting out Lake of the Woods for the second time this season.

The Panthers used a 64-9 advantage in shots for a 7-0 victory at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena to record their seventh shutout of the season. Park Rapids outshot LOW 60-15 in a 6-0 victory earlier this season.

Jessie O'Hern scored on a breakaway at the 6:12 mark and Alex Pederson scored at the 11:20 mark to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Hannah Williams and Ashley Thelen had assists on Pederson's goal as the Panthers held a 27-1 advantage in shots in the opening period.

A five-goal second period put the game away as the Panthers held a 25-2 advantage in shots. Bailee Jerger scored on assists from Kendra Dresow and Lauren Naeve at the 2:15 mark. Pederson set up Julia Renner at the 5:08 mark before Abby Fischer received an assist on a goal by Mady Vaudrin a minute later. Christina Smith scored on an assist from O'Hern 24 seconds after that before Renner set up Pederson at the 11:48 mark to conclude the scoring.

Goalie Bailey Moore stopped all nine shots she faced for the win.

The Panthers improved to 2-5 against Section 8A opponents while LOW fell to 0-6 in section games and 2-12 overall.

Eveleth defeats Panthers

Kora Bonicatto stopped 35 shots in leading Eveleth-Gilbert to a 4-1 win over the Panthers Saturday at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Amy Rice opened the scoring before Sam Mugge scored on a power play to give Eveleth a 2-0 lead after the first period.

After Thelen and Tayah Otterness set up a goal by Renner at the 8:28 mark, a power-play goal by Ashley Seabrook and a goal by Alicia Williams gave Eveleth a 4-1 lead.

Goalie Shania Johnson finished with 29 saves for the Panthers, who fell to 13-9 on the season. Eveleth improved to 6-16.
