Panthers defeat Prowlers to extend winning streak
Wins over Wadena-Deer Creek and Thief River Falls extended the Park Rapids baseball team’s winning streak to eight games in a row.
The Panthers maintained a tie for first place in the Mid-State Conference standings with Perham by sweeping W-DC by scores of 7-6 and 12-2 in five innings last Friday.
In the first game, the Panthers had to score twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for the win.
Singles by Derek Porozinski and Tyler McCollum produced one run in the second before a triple by Jordan McCollum and a single by Drew Bade sparked a three-run third inning. Porozinski was hit by a pitch and scored on Tyler McCollum’s single as the Panthers led 5-1 in the fifth.
W-DC scored five times in the top of the seventh to claim a 6-5 lead before singles by Bade, Rilee Johnson, Porozinski and Brad Eischens produced the winning runs in the bottom of that inning.
Jordan McCollum, Bade, Porozinski and Tyler McCollum all had two hits to pace the Panthers’ 10-hit attack.
In the second game, a five-run first inning sparked the Panthers to the sweep.
Singles by Josh Severtson, Johnson and Eischens and two errors gave Park Rapids a quick 5-0 lead.
Severtson singled and scored on Bade’s sacrifice fly in the second for a 6-2 lead before a double by Porozinski and singles by Jon Burlingame, Eischens and Jordan McCollum led to four runs in the third for a 10-2 lead.
The Panthers ended this game early via the 10-run rule in the fifth on singles by Jordan McCollum and Bade.
Jordan McCollum, Severtson, Johnson and Eischens all had two hits as the Panthers finished with 12 hits. Porozinski earned the win as the Panthers improved to 9-1 in the conference.
Park Rapids followed with a 9-3 win over Thief River Falls Tuesday in a key Section 8AA game.
That win lifted the Panthers to 13-2 overall while TRF fell to 7-3.
