Panthers challenge Cardinals at Wadena

     Dustin Bethel carded an 83 to lead the way at the No. 3 player position as the Park Rapids boys golf team gave defending champion Staples-Motley a battle in the Mid-Minnesota Conference opener Friday at Wadena.

     Ryan DeLaHunt took first at the No. 6 spot with an 87, Jamie Stewart carded an 89 for second place at the No. 4 spot, Ian Johnson (with an 87) and Wyatt Derman (with a 96) finished fourth at the No. 1 and No. 5 spots, respectively, and Bailey Mueller carded an 86 to share fourth place at the No. 2 position as the Panthers carded a runner-up 432 for 37.50 points.

     United North Central used Gavin Mickelson’s 84, Luke Wurdock’s 87, Noah Hendrickson’s 92, Aaron Paulson’s 97 and Arik Hillukka’s 102 to card a 462 and earn 22 points.

     Daniel Stacey’s 95, AJ Pappas’ 96, Jacob Jordan’s 98, Gunner Netteberg’s 107 and Ryan Annexstad’s 135 led Nevis to a 531 and 9 points.

     Staples-Motley carded a 430 and won the first conference meet with 43 points. Staples-Motley’s Andrew Israelson, Crosby-Ironton’s James Cragun and Pine River-Backus’ Cody Mager shared medalist honors with 79s.

Shattuck leads way at Staples

     Shattuck-St. Mary’s carded a 303 to edge Staples-Motley by two strokes to win the team title at Saturday’s Staples-Motley Invitational at The Vintage.

     Jordan’s 90, Netteberg’s 92, Michael Babler’s 94 and Dexter Copp’s 107 led Nevis to 10th place with a 383.

     A pair of 98s by CJ Hess and Remington Hagen, a 103 by Kodi Robbins and a 108 by Hunter Utke led Park Rapids to a 407 and 11th place in this 12-team meet.

     Israelson earned medalist honors with a 70.
