Panthers beat Mid-State foes for 5-1 record

Frank Moren, Ian Johnson and Drew Bade scored two goals each as the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team won back-to-back Mid-State Conference road games.


Moren and Johnson scored twice in leading the Panthers to a 6-1 win over Northern Lakes Thursday night at Breezy Point while Bade scored twice to spark the Panthers to a 4-1 victory over Prairie Centre Friday night at Long Prairie.

Park Rapids, which held a 79-42 advantage in shots on goal in the two games, improved to 5-1 in the conference and 8-5-2 overall. Northern Lakes fell to 0-4 in the conference and 6-9 overall while Prairie Centre fell to 0-3 against conference teams and 4-10-1 overall.

Panthers control Lightning

After giving up a power-play goal, the Panthers scored six unanswered goals to defeat Northern Lakes for the second time this season.

Hunter Leslie's power-play goal at the 9:16 mark of the first period gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead before Johnson set up Moren at the 12:35 mark to tie the game.

A three-goal second period put the Panthers in control. Moren scored at the 2:55 mark with assists going to Johnson and Noah MacPherson. Bade set up Luke Jaeger at the 11:04 mark before MacPherson and Kiefer Miller assisted on a goal by Johnson at the 13:59 mark as the Panthers carried a 4-1 lead into the final period.

MacPherson assisted on a shorthanded goal by Johnson with 4:15 to play before Miller set up a power-play goal by Jamie Stewart with 2:42 remaining to conclude the scoring.

Goalie Cody Brumbaugh made 19 saves for the Panthers, who held a 38-20 advantage in shots.

Panthers defeat Prairie Centre

Bade scored a pair of goals and had an assist as the Panthers defeated Prairie Centre.

Johnson and Bade scored in the first period to give the Panthers a quick 2-0 lead. Moren and MacPherson assisted on Johnson's goal at the 4:29 mark before Connor Kennedy and Stewart set up Bade at the 8:02 mark. Ryan Ritter's goal at the 15:33 mark pulled Prairie Centre to within 2-1.

Jaeger and Bade assisted on a goal by Kennedy at the 16:24 mark of the second period to give Park Rapids a 3-1 advantage.

Jaeger tallied another assist on Bade's second goal at the 10:35 mark of the final period to end the scoring.

Brumbaugh made 21 saves as the Panthers held a 41-22 advantage in shots.
