CENTURY FIRST GRADE TEACHER

Each year, the national PTA Reflections program challenges students to create art inspired by a specific theme.

Themes are selected from hundreds of ideas submitted by students in the PTA Reflections program theme search contest. This year's theme was "Diversity means..."

Again this year, the local PTA sponsored the PTA Art Reflections. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade were encouraged to submit works of art in the following six arts areas: Dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts.

Park Rapids had six winners that went on to the state level in three categories.

Musical Composition

Abby Eystad - Intermediate (5th grade)

Myah Schultz - Middle (7th grade)

Literature

Sydney Koppelman - Intermediate (4th Grade)

Visual Arts

Nadia Yliniemi-Hensel - Primary (1st Grade)

Peter Van Batavia -Intermediate (6th Grade)

Matthew Benson - Intermediate (6th Grade)

Myah Schultz was chosen as the winner at the state level and her music composition, "Snowflakes" was sent onto the national level. Also placing at the state level were: Abby Eystad, 2nd place (Music Composition); Sydney Koppelman, 3rd place (Literature); Peter Van Batavia, 2nd place (Visual Arts); and Matthew Benson, 3rd place (Visual Arts).
