Panther Post: High school students preparing to register for fall classes
While the class of 2012 is preparing to graduate and take the next step in their journey, the under classmen are preparing to register for the upcoming year.
Eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh graders start registering for classes this week. All of the students will be taking required math, social, science and English classes that make up a portion of the 72 total required credits to graduate from Park Rapids Area High Schools. In addition, students will also be registering for 21 elective credits of the 72 required credits selected from health & physical education, fine arts, art, industrial technology and foreign language. Students selecting their courses must consider their plans in the future that best fit their interest and compatibilities. At Park Rapids, students have room to sample general education courses and fulfill requirements of post-high school programs. We like to see students taking classes that challenge them as well as prepare them to continue their learning in the future.
I encourage students to talk to their parents or guardians and make tentative decisions about their post-graduation plans, which could include college, vocational school, military or work. We encourage students to review their registration material carefully when selecting classes. Students are encouraged to talk with their teachers, counselors and most importantly their parents. Park Rapids Area Schools uses an online registration system, which allows students and parents to conveniently check grades, attendance and graduation status. Because of the support of our community, we are able to offer many options and opportunities for our students.
