Fourth grade students from Century Elementary took a break from the cold weather for a Kindness Retreat at Northern Pines Campground on Thursday, Jan. 24.

Youth Frontiers has been presenting Kindness Retreats to Park Rapids fourth graders for about 15 years. The day consists of singing, dancing, games, storytelling and small group discussions all centering around the theme of kindness.

High school students join the retreat to act as group leaders and role models. Students list unkind acts they have seen or experienced at school and brainstorm ways to change the environment to eliminate these acts.

Youth Frontiers leaders teach that kindness is like a boomerang. If you throw out kindness, it will come back to you. They also teach strategies to use to rescue someone that may be experiencing bullying.

Many 4th grade students rated the day as a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. Thank you to the Century PTA for sponsoring the retreat.
