Overmyer takes second at Mega Meet

  Isaac Overmyer’s runner-up finish led the Park Rapids boys cross-country team to 11th place in the Class AA division at last Saturday’s Milaca Mega Meet.

     Overmyer covered the 5,000-meter course in 16:06 as the Panthers compiled 273 points in the 27-team field. Bailey Mueller was 61st overall in 18:38, Zach Jewison finished 71st in 18:52, Brad Eischens was 76th in 18:59 and Tyler Breitweser finished 92nd in 19:32 to round out the Panthers’ team score. Jared Kantonen (113th in 20:11) and Matt Konshok (121st in 20:30) completed the varsity lineup. There were 149 runners in the Class AA meet.

     Ephraim Bird led the field with a winning time of 15:55 in leading Minnehaha Academy to the team title with 54 points. Bird is rated No. 4 while Overmyer is rated No. 7 in the latest state Class A poll.

     Nicole Eischens finished 121st in the girls Class AA varsity race with a time of 20:55.

     In the boys junior varsity race, Nathanael Rairdon (250th in 21:01), Cody Brumbaugh (277th in 21:17) and Alex Boyd (297th in 21:33) competed for Park Rapids. There were 582 runners in that race.

     Megan Olson (third in 15:52) and Abby Mueller (36th in 17:37) were among 187 runners in the girls 10th grade race.

     In the 9th grade races, Lydia Kantonen (second in 16:10), Ellery Overmyer (eighth in 16:36), Madison Steffel (24th in 17:11) and Megan Jewison (24th in 17:11) competed for the girls while Zach Nelson (239th in 22:26) and Adam Jacobi (296th in 24:39) competed for the boys. There were 194 girls and 339 boys in those races.

     In the 8th grade races, Will Pickar (53rd in 12:40), Austin Jerger (66th in 12:47) and Darien Simon (161st in 13:50) competed for the boys while Alexandra Kirlin (96th in 15:10) competed for the girls. There were 321 boys and 209 girls who ran in those 3,200-meter races.

     In the 7th grade race, Kendra Coborn (second in 12:58), Whitney Steffel (67th in 15:06) and Kinley Nordin (98th in 15:45) competed for the girls while Bjorn Jorgenson (56th in 13:26) ran for the boys. There were 207 girls and 324 boys in those races.

Incomplete teams: New London-Spicer, Paynesville, Foley, Milaca, St. Mary’s, Lac qui Parle, St. Croix Lutheran, Hinckley-Finlayson, Cromwell.
