Overmyer repeats as Mid-State champ

Isaac Overmyer repeated as the Mid-State Conference champion and Tayah Otterness earned runner-up honors to account for two of five all-conference performers for the Park Rapids cross-country teams Thursday at Wadena.

Overmyer covered the 5,000-meter course with a winning time of 16:45. Jake Waggoner also earned all-conference honors by placing 10th in 17:42 while Zach Jewison received all-conference honorable mention honors by placing 15th in 18:15.

Tanner Otterness placed 26th in 18:50 and Bailey Mueller was 31st in 19:06 as Park Rapids finished fourth with 83 points. Austin Carlson (32nd in 19:08) and Nathanael Rairdon (33rd in 19:19) rounded out the Panthers' varsity lineup.

Crosby-Ironton, which is rated No. 9 in the state Class A poll, won the conference title with 49 points while Detroit Lakes (64) and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (71) followed.

In the girls meet, Otterness clocked a 15:54 over the 4,000-meter course to trail only Detroit Lakes' Kenzie Ostlie's winning time of 15:40.

Megan Olson also earned all-conference honors by placing eighth in 16:35. Lora Remus (21st in 17:13), Madison Steffel (28th in 17:43) and Morgan Olson (29th in 17:44) rounded out Park Rapids' fourth-place team score of 88 points. Abby Mueller (30th in 17:54) and Kaylee Hilmanowski (38th in 18:36) completed the Panthers' varsity squad.

Detroit Lakes won the team title with 39 points while Pequot Lakes (80) and Crosby-Ironton (86) followed.

Overmyer earned all-conference honors for the third year in a row while Waggoner, Jewison, Otterness and Olson received all-conference honors for the first time.

Brad Eischens, Tyler Breitweser, Jacob Hays, Jared Kantonen and Adam Mackley led the Panthers to third place in the boys junior varsity race with 57 points.
