In the girls meet, the Panthers had four runners earn all-conference honors by placing in the top-7 spots. Lydia Kantonen finished second in 15:51, Megan Olson was fourth in 16:17, Ellery Overmyer placed fifth in 16:23 and Kendra Coborn was seventh in 16:39. Madison Steffel finished 17th in 17:35 to round out Park Rapids’ winning total of 35 points. Detroit Lakes was second with 54 points. Olson earned all-conference honors last season.

Rounding out the Panthers’ varsity team were Abby Mueller (22nd in 17:58) and Tayah Otterness (37th in 18:52). Crosby-Ironton’s Margaret Stokman led the field by covering the 4,000-meter course in 15:47.

“I thought the girls had a great chance to win the title, but I knew it would be close,” said Park Rapids head coach Kerry Johnson. “I knew we would have a couple for sure in the top 10, but having four in the top 7 was so exciting. The girl worked hard and ran well.”

In the boys race, Overmyer led the way with a winning time of 16:58 over the 5,000-meter course. Overmyer is rated No. 7 in this week’s state Class A poll.
