     Judging by Thursday’s results at the Perham Invitational, both Park Rapids cross-country teams will have some work to do at the upcoming Section 8A meet.

     In the girls meet, the Panthers finished fifth overall behind section rivals Perham and Roseau while the boys took 11th behind section foes Perham, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton and Roseau. The champion and runner-up at the section meet advance to the state Class A meet.

     Willmar had five runners in the top six spots to claim the title in the 21-team girls meet with 16 points. Fargo North was second with 86 points, followed by Perham’s 106, Roseau’s 128 and Park Rapids’ 139.

     Leading the Panthers were Lydia Kantonen (ninth overall in 15:42), Megan Olson (13th in 15:48), Ellery Overmyer (28th in 16:12), Madison Steffel (47th in 16:51) and Kendra Coborn (52nd in 16:58). Abby Mueller (63rd in 17:15) and Tayah Otterness (116th in 18:37) completed the Panthers’ varsity.

     Willmar’s Samantha Hanson covered the 4,000-meter course with a winning time of 15:02.

     In the boys meet, Perham led the 23-team field with 35 points. Willmar was second with 61 points while D-G-F was fourth with 171 points, Roseau was sixth with 189 points and the Panthers were 11th with 260 points.

     Isaac Overmyer finished fifth overall in 16:14. Rounding out the Panthers’ team score were Zach Jewison (64th in 18:39), Bailey Mueller (65th in 18:40), Tyler Breitweser (82nd in 18:57) and Brad Eischens (97th in 19:16). Jared Kantonen (121st in 19:44) and Matt Konshok (136th in 19:56) completed Park Rapids’ varsity.

     Perham’s Keeghan Hurley led the field with a winning time of 15:28 over the 5,000-meter course.

     United North Central finished 13th in the girls meet behind Joy Haataja (72nd in 17:25), Anna Olson (73rd in 17:26), Jen Stifter (86th in 17:42), Megan Hendrickson (100th in 18:16) and Sarah Kuismi (101st in 18:17). Nevis’ Chloe Johnson was 185th in 20:38.

     In the boys meet, UNC finished 14th with 442 points behind Luke Wurdock (104th in 19:26), Ryan Johnson (108th in 19:27), Joseph Keranen (126th in 19:49), Ryan Spandgenske (159th in 20:29) and Don Wurdock (164th in 20:32). Running for Nevis were William Kempnich (74th in 18:52), Conley Anderson (213th in 21:32) and Reed Bennett (256th in 25:18).
