Wadena-Deer Creek hit four 3-pointers on five trips down the court to break open a tie game and spark a 67-51 Mid-State Conference victory over the Park Rapids boys basketball team last Friday night at Wadena.

After Chris Goplerud hit a free throw to tie the game at 34-34 with 9:43 to play, Andrew VanErp hit three 3-pointers to ignite a 15-0 run. VanErp followed a 3-pointer with a 4-point play as the Wolverines claimed the lead for good. Three-pointers by Ryan Redfield and VanErp capped the run as W-DC led 49-34 with 7:33 to play.

The Panthers mounted a comeback as two free throws by Kyle Goplerud, a jumper by Scott Wolff, a basket by Chris Goplerud, a 3-pointer by Tyler Ridlon, two jumpers by Chris Goplerud and a basket off a rebound by Kyle Goplerud cut the gap to 57-50 with 3:48 remaining.

But W-DC closed the game with a 10-1 run as a free throw by Andy Waller with 2:13 remaining provided the only point for the Panthers down the stretch. Park Rapids missed 10 free throws in the final 5:32 and 20 free throws in the game.

Park Rapids used four baskets by Wolff, a jumper and 3-pointer by Tyler McCollum, and two fields goals by Josh Crist to claim a 29-26 lead at the half. Redfield's three 3-pointers and a 3-pointer by Evan VanErp led W-DC in the first half.

Baskets by Chris Goplerud and Ridlon helped the Panthers tie the game at 34-34 before Andrew VanErp's 3-pointer shooting led the Wolverines to the win.

Redfield and Andrew VanErp combined for nine of W-DC's 10 3-pointers. Andrew VanErp finished with 21 points, Redfield scored 17 and Evan VanErp added 16 as the Wolverines avenged a 62-57 loss to the Panthers earlier in the season. The win gave W-DC a 2-7 record in the conference and a 9-13 overall mark.

Chris Goplerud had 11 points and three steals while Wolff scored a season-high 11 points to lead the Panthers. Zach Jewison grabbed eight rebounds, Waller had seven rebounds, and Kyle Goplerud and McCollum had three assists each for the Panthers, who fell to 1-9 in the conference.

Kinzler leads EGF to win

Michael Kinzler scored a career-high 21 points in leading East Grand Forks to a 57-47 victory over the Panthers Tuesday night.

Kinzler hit four jumpers in the final 3:46 of the first half to give the Green Wave a 28-25 lead at the break.

EGF made 13 free throws and used Jim Warmack's three inside baskets to push the lead to double digits in the second half.

Kyle Goplerud hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points while Waller and McCollum combined for 12 points to lead Park Rapids in the first half.

McCollum hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 14 points after the break. Kyle Goplerud's two field goals and a jumper by Chris Goplerud were the only other points for Park Rapids in the second half.

McCollum finished with 20 points, six rebounds and four steals while Kyle Goplerud had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Goplerud added nine rebounds, five assists and four steals as the Panthers fell to 2-19 on the season.

Warmack added 16 points as EGF improved to 12-12.
