Ogema woman gets jail, probation for illegal voting
An Ogema woman was sentenced Wednesday in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of illegal voting.
Kyla Mae VanPelt, 28, of 206 Eagle Drive, Ogema, was sentenced to five years of supervised probation and 30 days in the Becker County Jail, as well as sentence to service in lieu of a $760 fine. If she successfully completes probation, the felony charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor conviction.
VanPelt was accused of voting in the Nov. 4, 2008 state election in White Earth Township, despite being on probation for a felony charge of first degree driving while intoxicated, which made her ineligible to vote under state law.
