Officials identify victim of fatal Clay County crash
MOORHEAD - The Minnesota State Patrol has identified a woman killed in a broadside-type crash that also injured two other people north of here Tuesday afternoon.
Shelly M. Seefried, 36, of Fargo, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Dan Vickmark said authorities believe a four-door Toyota Avalon was eastbound on Clay County 26 at about 12:52 p.m. when it struck the driver's side of a two-door Chevy Cavalier being driven by Seefried northbound on U.S. 75.
The intersection has stop signs on Clay County 26, also known as 90th Avenue North.
The Toyota's front end was totaled. Its driver, Gary Phillips, 72, of Lansford, N.D., and his wife, Audrey Phillips, 68, were taken by ambulance to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo with non-life threatening injuries. Authorities said they were walking around after the crash.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, Vickmark said. Authorities were reconstructing the crash at the scene.
Both vehicles ended up in the northeast corner of the intersection. The Toyota came to rest in a ditch, while the Chevy ended up on the grass next to an electrical substation.
