Oct. 31 omnibus hearing set in Big Wolf Resort reservation theft case
An omnibus hearing has been set for Oct. 31 in the case of a former Hubbard County resort manager accused of theft.
Christopher Lee Dunker, 29, no known address, appeared in Hubbard County District Court Monday with his attorney Bill Thompson, who is from Duluth.
Dunker has ties to the Duluth area and is actually under investigation there in a contractor case in which two Duluth homeowners paid $40,000 for a remodeling job two years ago that was never completed. Duluth police and other agencies are conducting that investigation.
Almost $17,000 was missing from guest deposits to Big Wolf Resort found during a Hubbard County investigation last spring after 11 people who reserved summer rentals lost their money when the resort abruptly closed. The resort in northeastern Hubbard County is presently being foreclosed upon.
At the time of the Hubbard County investigation, the resort's website was still operational and taking reservations, urging guests to pay in full up front to receive a discount.
Dunker has a litany of criminal convictions including sale of a controlled substance in 2005, three gaming violations filed by the DNR, a vehicle theft and burglary conviction in 2001, another theft conviction in 2005 and numerous traffic offenses.
