Northern Lakes, EGF defeat Panthers
Northern Lakes and East Grand Forks used strong starts to defeat the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akleley girls hockey team.
Northern Lakes scored three goals in the first period to spark a 4-2 win over the Panthers Thursday night at Breezy Point while East Grand Forks scored four goals in the second period to spark an 8-0 win Saturday at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.
The two losses dropped Park Rapids to 8-12-1 on the season.

A three-goal first period sparked Northern Lakes past the Panthers.
After Lauren Naeve scored 3:43 into the game to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead, Northern Lakes scored four unanswered goals to take control.
Goals by Carly Fyle, Megan Snyder and Erika Monson gave the Lightning a 3-1 lead after the first period before Hannah Zimmerman scored to make it 4-1 early in the third period.
Danika Aletto set up Alex Pederson for the game’s final goal at the 9:44 mark of the second period.
Goalie Shania Johnson made 25 saves for the Panthers, who defeated Northern Lakes 5-1 earlier this season.
Northern Lakes improved to 7-11 on the season.

Eades leads EGF past Panthers
Erica Eades scored four goals in leading East Grand Forks past the Panthers in this game between Section 8A rivals.
Eades scored 10 seconds into the game and added a power-play goal at the 7:21 mark as the Green Wave led 2-0 after the first period.
A power-play goal by Haley Mack 26 seconds into the second period and goals by Eades, Alexa Mack and Mak Langei extended EGF’s lead to 6-0.
Haley Mack and Eades concluded the scoring in the third period as EGF ended with a 59-11 advantage in shots on goal.
Johnson made 37 saves and Julia Smith had three saves for the Panthers, who were shut out for the seventh time this season. Park Rapids fell to 2-6-1 against section teams.
Goalie Madi Galstad stopped all 11 shots she faced for her eighth shutout of the season. EGF, which is rated No. 3 in the latest state Class A poll, improved to 5-1 against section opponents and 20-1 overall. The Green Wave defeated Park Rapids 5-1 earlier in the season.
