Northern Lakes edges Panthers
Northern Lakes scored two goals in a span of 33 seconds in the third period to defeat the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team 3-2 Tuesday night at the Breezy Point Ice Arena.
After Ben Moe scored at the 4:27 mark of the first period to give Northern Lakes a 1-0 lead, Benson Ringle tied the game with an assist from Sam Coborn at the 10:24 mark.
Neither team scored in the second period as the Panthers held a 16-6 edge in shots.
A power-play goal by Connor Chambers at the 11:05 mark was followed by a goal by Dillon Johnson at the 11:38 mark as Northern Lakes claimed a 3-1 lead.
Coborn set up Luke Jaeger to pull the Panthers to within 3-2 at the 14:55 mark. But Northern Lakes goalie Joey Bergquist, who finished with 40 saves, preserved the win.
Park Rapids goalie Cody Brumbaugh tallied 31 saves as the Panthers fell to 2-1 in Mid-State Conference play and 3-7 overall. Northern Lakes improved to 2-2 in conference games and 5-6-1 overall.
The Panthers concluded last week's Fergus Falls tournament with an 8-3 loss to Fargo North last Thursday. No scoresheet was available for that game.
