Norma Nygaard, 95, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Norma Nygaard was born to Ole and Louise (Hanson) Nygaard on Nov. 26, 1912 in Marshall County, Minn. When she was 17, she moved with her family to the Waubun area, where she finished her schooling.
Norma was never married, but her extended family was like her own. She was loving, faithful and kind to her family, many friends and those who knew her. She loved to spend time with her extended family. Norma enjoyed painting, embroidery, wildlife, reading and working on the farm. She also loved music and dancing.
Surviving Norma are her nephews, Robert A. (Katie) Kind of Rush City, Minn., and Louis O. Nygaard of Detroit Lakes; nieces, Carol D. (Kevin) Bice of Waubun, Nora S. Listul of Naytahwaush and Shelly K. Larson of Callaway; 10 great nieces and nephews; as well as 10 great-great grand nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters, Lilah Broulliard, Bernice Holcomb and Helen Drummond; and one brother, Sheldon E. Nygaard.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, with Chaplain Vicki Marthaler officiating. There will be visitation for one hour prior to services at the nursing home.
