Noreen's 13 strikeouts lead Hawley by Panthers
Jessy Noreen threw a three-hitter and struck out 13 in leading Hawley to an 8-1 victory over the Park Rapids fastpitch softball team in the first round of the Section 8AA South playoffs Tuesday.
Hawley, the No. 4 seed, strung together four singles to score five times in the third inning to spark the win.
The No. 5-seeded Panthers managed only three baserunners through the first four innings before scoring their lone run in the fifth. Caitlan Isaacson singled with two outs, advanced to second when Shania Johnson was hit by a pitch, and scored on Lauren Naeve's single.
Katie Just's double with one out in the seventh was the only other baserunner for the Panthers the rest of the way.
Olivia Vaadeland took the loss, allowing six earned runs on nine hits and six walks with five strikeouts.
Park Rapids ended the season with a 12-9 record while Hawley improved to 12-3.
