No. 5-rated Crookston escapes PR with a win
The Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hacken-sack-Akeley girls hockey team gave the state's No. 5-ranked Class A team a battle before Crookston scored twice in the third period to escape the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena with a 3-1 win Thursday night.
Lexy Wangen scored 1:58 into the game to give Crookston a 1-0 lead before Heather Brostrom scored at the 8:58 mark to tie the game. Hannah Williams received an assist on what would prove to be Park Rapids' only goal of the game.
After a scoreless second period, the Pirates scored the game-winner 19 seconds into the final period on a goal by Jessica Broekemeier. Caitlin Wahouske would add an insurance goal at the 11:05 mark as Crookston held a 16-6 edge in shots in the final period.
Park Rapids goalie Bailey Moore made 32 saves as the Panthers fell to 4-9-2 on the season.
Erin Barnes-Olson finished with 16 saves for the Pirates, who improved to 11-5.
