The Menahga School Board will welcome a new member at their next meeting in May.
Raymond Aho, a Wolf Lake resident and dairy farmer, will join the school board in time to vote on budget reductions for the 2009-10 academic year.
Aho is a former school board member. Chairman Durwin Tomperi appointed him late last month to replace Diana Pihlaja.
Here's a Q and A with the newest Menahga School Board member:
Q: How long did you serve on the Menahga School Board in the past?
A: I served on the school board for 11 years ending in 2005.
Q: What do you think is the toughest challenge the school board is currently facing?
A: The financial end of everything. Keeping a balanced budget is the biggest challenge.
Q: What's your take on the building project?
A: We are short on classroom and gymnasium space and we do need it but as far as the present plan, I still don't know enough information about it.
We had one similar building project going when I served on the school board in the past, it was more expensive than this one and didn't get enough votes to pass.
We have to work together on the board for what's best for the school district.
Q: What experience do you have that will be beneficial to the school board?
A: I've been the chair of Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church for several years.
