A new local organization is seeking disabled anglers for a fishing excursion Aug. 11.

Midwest Outdoors Unlimited is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide outdoor recreational activities for Disabled American Veterans and disabled individuals including youth.

“Our goal is to help disabled people enjoy the same outdoor activities that everyone else can do and improve their quality of life,” said DNR Conservation Officer Sam Hunter.

“We want to help them feel better and know they are not forgotten.  Our organization provides funds, volunteers, guides, handicap accessible places and equipment to be able to get disabled people out in the great outdoors.”

MOU has chapters throughout the state much like the NWTF (National Wild Turkey Foundation) or MDHA (Minnesota Deer Hunters Association).

Park Rapids just started an MOU chapter called Headwaters Helpers.

“This is the Headwaters Helpers first event in the area and we are very excited,” Hunter said.

The excursion will take place Aug. 11 from noon to 4 p.m. on Island Lake.

For more information, or to register, call Hunter at 218-289-4868 or Terry Mitchell at 218-255-1392.
